About

Why did we create Yum Cha Project?

In Cantonese, “yum cha” translates to “drink tea,” but in a broader cultural sense, it has a deeper meaning. It’s a social gathering with your family and friends around a variety of dim sum dishes, typically enjoyed during brunch or lunch hours.

Our founders, Howin Chui and partners grew up immersed in the rich traditions of yum cha. However, we noticed that enjoying yum cha in Australia posed three problems:

  • Time-consuming

  • Limited variety for solo diners or picky eaters

  • Lacked the convenience of having delicious yum cha on the go

To address these challenges, we teamed up with Vincent, known by his social media name Dim Sim Lim. Vincent is an internationally recognised chef/restaurateur with over 20 years of experience, including opening a 200-seater restaurant, appearing on Masterchef and giving a TED Talk. As a content creator with over 4 million followers and 500 million views, he brings a wealth of knowledge and modern flair to our project.

We aim to make yum cha more accessible for on-the-go meals even if you have a busy day at work by offering quick, convenient, and customisable options.

Through the Yum Cha Project, we share our culture and memories for delicious, convenient dining with the community, one dim sum at a time.
